With 20 years’ experience, Attorney Walker is a litigation expert with hundreds of satisfied clients: Attorney Tamara A. Walker is a highly skilled litigator and gifted attorney who was hired by the late Johnnie Cochran while she was still in law school. Attorney Walker continues to model her law practice in Mr. Cochran’s honor, through her commitment to tirelessly represent every client to the highest degree possible. She recently secured a $1.18 million jury verdict against the City of Chicago and the Chicago Police Department in Cockerham v. City of Chicago; a nationally publicized civil rights case involving the shooting death of a 23-year old man by a Chicago police officer. She has represented victims of civil rights abuses and personal injury cases, securing large monetary judgements and verdicts for her clients. As a criminal defense lawyer, Attorney Walker won may difficult cases and successfully got the Court in People v. Litwn 2015 IL App (3d) 140429, to throw out her client’s conviction and 12-year sentence for drug trafficking in a case now often cited as legal precedent.
Attorney Walker is also a former Assistant State’s Attorney where she spent four years prosecuting thousands of cases. As an ASA, she ran multiple courtrooms as first chair and prosecuted thousands of cases including DUI, traffic, criminal sexual abuse, drugs, guns, assault, battery, domestic battery, and theft. There she gained the litigation skills necessary to make her a top notch criminal defense attorney.
Attorney Walker graduated from the University of Notre Dame Law School; undergraduate degree from Emory University. At Notre Dame, she served as Captain of the Trial Team where she led them to winning the National Championship at the American College of Trial Lawyers National Trial Competition in 2000. This accomplishment made Attorney Walker the first African American woman Champion of the country’s most prestigious trial competition in its then 25 year history. Notre Dame awarded her the Jon Krupnick Memorial Award for Excellence in the Area of Trial Advocacy which earned her a permanent place in the school’s rich and proud tradition of excellence.
